Welcome to Zarzuela Miniature Horse Ranch.
We live in the charming town of Healdsburg, California,
nestled in the Dry Creek Valley of Sonoma Wine Country.
Here at Zarzuela, we are blending wonderful lines of refined Miniature Horses, taking the best characteristics of each. We are creating a horse epitomizing the best of halter and performance ... a horse that takes your breath away when watching its elegance and balance in action or standing still. A horse blending quality, performance, balance and beauty... ...A Zarzuela Horse! Let us tell you the meaning of the word Zarzuela. It is a Spanish word meaning bramble bush or blackberry vines. In the early 17th century, a royal hunting lodge located in the forest of Madrid came to be known as La Zarzuela because it was overgrown with blackberries. In 1634, Philip IV of Spain, rebuilt this lodge. It became his summer palace where he and his family entertained other European royalty. Music that came to be called Zarzuela was composed especially for these events. This Zarzuela is a dramatic form of music, much like operetta, characterized by alternation of singing and dancing with spoken dialogue. Many Spanish composers of that period dedicated themselves to writing this music. At the present time, Spanish tenors Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras are well known for reviving and singing Zarzuelas. They, with Luciano Pavarotti are known as the three tenors. We are aficionados of this music, a blend of drama, singing and dancing. A blend of musical art....a blend of beautiful horses. | ||||||||||
